RPCL’s 1280 ha crown land block is situated in Township 45, Ranges 3 and 4W5. The main reservoir target is the Lower Mannville. The land block is positioned within the established Crystal producing trend.
The Lower Mannville interval in this area consists of sandstone, siltstone, shale and coal. These lithologies were deposited in a fluvial channel – deltaic setting. The most porous interval is the Wilrich zone. It is 8m thick and consists of fine and medium grained lithic sandstone with average porosity of 9 per cent. These sands were deposited in a channel setting. In the 100/16-12-45-4W5 type well this interval was fracture stimulated and recovered 2.8 m3 oil 31.8 degree API. It is estimated that 4 MM barrels oil are in place over approximately 1920 acres or 768 ha. Drilling and completion cost are 5.5MM and up to 8 horizontal wells can be drilled.
